Have u seen pink Audi or green BMW?
In this Photoshop tutorial I’ll teach you, how to change color of a car in PS using layer masking method.
1. First u need a high resolution at least 1200×600 size car image. I used Audi wallpaper you can download it here. While choosing image I’ll prefer to have a dark background for this tutorial, you will realize later that why I am preferring it.

2. Open the image file you have downloaded. You can see that the background layer is locked currently. So duplicate the layer by pressing (Ctrl+J) on your keyboard. Rename the layer to “bgcopy”.
3. I am also modifying the tail lights to give them black style, if u don’t want this you can skip this step. Select the “Magnetic Losso Tool”. Now you have to select the light on the right side, left click on the starter point then when you finished left click again.

4. Press Ctrl+C on your keyboard then press Ctril+V. It will duplicate the selection on the new layer. Then go to Image>Adjustment>Channel Mixer, check the “Monochromic” option, move the contrast slider if necessary.

Repeat the above two steps for the left light.
5. Select the layer “bgcopy”. Press Shift+Ctrl+U on your keyboard to desaturate the image.
6. Then goto Layers->New Adjustment Layer->Hue/Saturaton. A dialogue appear, check “Use previous layer to create clipping mask” and click OK. Now In the Hue/Saturation Dialogue set the following values, click OK. These values will give red color to your car if u want any other color then u can move Hue slider to the color you want.

Note: These values will not give all images same color it depends on original color of car.
Your layer panel should look something like this.

7. From here the most important part of the tutorial starts. Click the mask located right side on the hue/sat in the layer panel. Select black color from color chooser then fill the whole area using bucket tool. Red screen will gone and bgcopy is visible now.
8. Select Brush Tool, and select white color, make sure that mask layer is still selected. Start painting on car, remember when painting on wider area of car use large size faded brush and when painting on narrow areas like edges, do use small size brush.

The most difficult part of painting is coloring on edges, so done it well. Don’t worry if u painted small detailing like name plate, logo etc we will erase them later.
If u have done any mistake then don’t use eraser, use black color and paint those area u want to hide. It will look something like this.

9. Its time for detailing that will give original look to your car. Select the black color and use brush tool to erase area that are not part of car body or have different colors.
Things to Erase car logo, lights, name plate, windows etc.

10. Final image should look something like this.

11. If you want to change color later then double click on the hue/sat layer and move the Hue slider to have fun.
Some other cool colors you can apply.
